Things to Do
Situated on the coast at the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, there is something to do for everybody in Criccieth. Castles, mountains, beaches, trains, golf, water sports, fishing, plus excellent visitor attractions in abundance.
There are many fun attractions in the local area. We’ve picked out just a handful of our favourites on this page by way of a few suggestions.
Portmeirion Village
This unique village is set on its own peninsula on the southern shores of Snowdonia. Its dreamlike Italianate quality made it the setting for the famous TV series The Prisoner. There are lovely gardens and fascinating vistas at every turn.
The unique Snowdon Mountain Railway rises to within 66′ of the summit of Wales highest mountain and provides unforgettable views of some of the finest mountain scenery in the British Isles.
The Ffestiniog Railway takes you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. The historic trains climb over 700 feet into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests and around horseshoe bends clinging to the side of the mountain or tunnelling through it.
This area abounds in fantastic beaches of all kinds, long and sandy or rocky with pools, and all in Criccieth or on our doorstep. This coast is warmed by the Gulf Stream and therefore offers a fantastic climate, even staying quite mild in winter months. Swim in Criccieth’s clean waters or even watch the dolphins and porpoises swimming in the bay.
